THE PROFESSOR'S LESSON
(The happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.)
When a pprofessor served coffee to his former students who complained to him of stress in their working lives, he brought out an assortment of cups-porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal , some plain looking, some expensive, others exquisite. After the students selected a cup of coffee the professor said," All the nice looking cups have been taken up, leaving behind the plain ones. I can assure you that the cup itself add no quality to the coffee. What you wanted was coffee, not the cup. But you consciously went for the best cup and began eyeing each other's cup. While it is normal to want only the best for yourselves, but that is the source for your problems and stress. Sometimes by concentrating only on the things like the cup, we fail to enjoy the goodness God has provided for us." The happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.
DON'T WAIT FOR THE BRICK
(Don't go through life so fast that someone has to throw a brick to get your attention! It's our choice. Listen to the whisper...or wait for the brick!)
A young executive was driving fast when a brick smashed into the car's side door! He stopped, reversed to the spot where the brick was thrown, grabbed the nearest kid shouting, "What was all that about? Just what the heck are you doing? That's a new car and that brick you threw is going to cost a lot of money. What did you do that for?" The young boy was apologetic. "Please mister...please, I'm sorry...I didn't know what else to do," he pleaded. "I threw the brick because no one else would stop..." The youth pointed to a spot near a parked car. "It's my brother," he said. "He rolled off the curb and fell out of his wheelchair and I can't lift him up."
The sobbing boy asked, "Would you please help me get him back onto his wheelchair? He's hurt and he's too heavy for me."Moved beyond words, the young executive hurriedly lent a hand and lifted the boy back onto the wheelchair. "Thank you and may God bless you," the grateful child told the stranger. The executive watched as the little boy pushed his wheelchair-bound brother away. The damage was noticeable, but the executive never bothered to repair the dent just to remind him of the incident. Don't rush through life. God always whispers to us. Sometimes when we don't have time to listen, He has to throw a brick at us.
THE FROGS
(The difference between perserverance and obstinacy is having a strong will and not having one.)
When two frogs fell into a bucket of milk,, they faced a situation that became a matter of life or death. Both of them tried to jump to freedom, but the sides were steep and they had no foundation to spring from. One of them despaired, stopped jumping and soon sank to the bottom and drowned. The other saw no likehood of success, but kept on trying. Although despair started to creep into its mind, it kept on kicking. Although growing tired and weary, he never stopped, knowing that if he did, he would end up like the other frog at the bottom of the bucket. Eventually its persistence churned the milk into butter. The hardened surface became a springboard. The relieved frog grabbed the opportunity and jumped away to freedom. Those who don't give up and presevere will enjoy the fruits of their labors.
SAND AND STONE
(Forget your hurts, count your blessings!)
Two friends were crossing the desert. At one point they had an argument, and one slapped the other. The one who got slapped, without saying anything wrote in the sand: "TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SLAPPED ME IN THE FACE."
They kept on walking till they found an oasis, where they decided to take a bath, the one got slapped got stuck in the mire and was drowning, but his friend saved him. After the ordeal, he wrote on a stone, "TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SAVED MY LIFE."
The friend who had slapped him, then saved his life asked, "After I slapped you, you wrote on sand, and now on a stone, why?" His friend replied, "When someone hurts us, we should write it down on sand where winds of forgiveness will erase it away. But when someone does something good for us, we should engrave it on stone so that it will never be forgotten." Write your hurts in sand, but crave your blessings in stone.

DAD'S BLESSINGS
(We often miss blessings and answer from above, because they do not come as expect)
A young man about to graduate admired a beautiful sports car, and knowing that his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted. On the morning of his graduation, his father called him into his private study. His father told hiim how proud he was of him, how much he loved him and handed him a beautifully bound bible, with the young man's name embossed in gold. Angrily he raised his voice, "With all your money, you give me bible?" and stormed out of the house, leaving the bible. As the years passed, the young man was very successful himself with a beautiful home and wonderful family, but realized his father was very old and decided to go and see him. He had not seen him since his graduation day. Before he could make arrangements, he received a telegram saying that his father had pass away, and willed all of his possessions to him. He needed to come home immediately and take care of things. Sad with regret as he went through his father's papers, he saw the bible. As he turned the pages, a car key dropped. It had the tag of the car dealer's name with the words PAID IN FULL. Many a time we impose, the Lord disposes.
BIG ROCKS AND THE JAR
(Decide what you want, always have priorities in life.)
A high school teacher once demonstrated a concept to his students. He filled a jar of rocks and then asked if it was full. "Yes!" the class replied. Then he poured some gravel and let it settle between the rocks before pouring some sand into the jar. Again, he asked if the jar was full. "Yes!" they replied. After that, the teacher poured some water into the jar and asked again if it was full. When he finished, he asked the class what was the point of the demonstration. One student answered, "No matter how busy you are, we can always squeeze more things to our schedule. "No" replied the teacher, "The point is unless you place the big rocks first into the jar you are never going to get them in."
And in real life, what are the Big Rocks in your life? Spending time with your spouse, children, parents, taking seminars or classes to improve your career goals, plans or evaluate your progress. When you say you have no time, remember the story about the Big Rocks and the Jar! Always have priorities in life.
ROSE'S LEGACY
(Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional, it is never too late to learn.)
I had the privilge of meeting Rose in my college years. She stood out, as she was 87 years of age. Despite her age, she dreamt of having a college education. Over the course of the year, Rose became a campus icon and she easily made friends wherever she went. Despite her age, she blended in and was loved by everyone. At the end of the final semester at a banquet, Rose was invited to speak. In her speech, she shared this with us. " We do not stop palying because we old; we grow old because we stop playing. The secret to stay young, is being happy and achieving success."
"You have to laugh and find humour every day. You've got to have a dream. When you lose it, you die. There are so many people walking around dead and don't even know it. Everyone grows older. That doens't need talent. But as we get older, we must always grow in wisdom. We shouldn't have regrets for what we did, but what we didn't do." She concluded, "Growing older is mandatory, growing up is optional."
